With the right materials and a few steps, you can make your own agility jump wings at home. With just a little bit of effort, you can be on your way to creating the perfect agility jump for your furry friend.
Gather Your Materials
Gathering the right materials is the first step in making your own dog agility jump wings. To start, you’ll need to have the right tools and supplies, such as PVC pipe, wood, screws and bolts, and some wood glue. Make sure you have a drill to attach the screws and bolts and a saw to cut the wood.
You’ll also need some sandpaper to smooth out the edges of the wood.
You’ll need paint or sealant to finish off your wings. Don’t forget to pick up some dog agility markers to make it easier for your pup to identify the jump wings on the course. Once you’ve got the materials you need, you’re ready to assemble your wings.
What Materials are Needed?
You will need field flags, PVC pipes, duct tape, a saw, a measuring tape, screws, wood screws, a screwdriver, and a drill. Make sure to get all of the necessary materials before starting the project. You’ll need PVC pipes that are at least 10 feet long and one and a half inches thick, so measure the length of your jump before purchasing the pipes.
You will also need screws and field flags for the base and a saw for cutting the PVC pipes. You will need a drill, a screwdriver, and duct tape to complete the project. It can be a bit overwhelming gathering all of the materials, so make sure you have everything you need before starting.
Assemble Your Jump Wings
Assembling your own agility jump wings is easy once you have gathered the right materials. Make sure you have enough PVC pipe, T-connectors, elbow connectors, a drill, and screws or zip ties. Once you have the materials, lay out your pieces to get an idea of what you will need to do.
Start by threading the PVC pipes through the T-connectors and elbow connectors, creating the two frames for your agility jump. Secure the pieces together with screws or zip ties.
Once you have the frames built, drill the required holes for the jump wings. Attach the jump wings to the frames with screws or zip ties. With a bit of patience, you can create an agility jump for your pup at home!
Step 1
Start by cutting your PVC pipe into four pieces. The lengths you will need depend on the height of your jump, but try to make each section longer than the other. With the pipe cut, take a drill and create holes in the middle of each section.
Take the zip ties and use them to attach the four sections together. Make sure the holes are lined up so that the zip ties can be used. Now you have the frame for your jump wings.
Step 2
You’ll need to attach the jump wings to the base. Measure the distance between the two sides of the base, and then cut the poles to the appropriate length. Before attaching the poles to the base, ensure that they are the same height.
Use bolts and washers to secure the poles to the base. If your jump has a central pole, attach it to the base using a hook and nut.
Make sure that all of the attachments are secure and that nothing is loose. You can attach the jump wings to the poles. Use a drill and screws to secure the wings to the poles.
Step 3
Once you have your pieces cut and ready, assemble your jump wings. You will need to screw in the dowels along the edges in order to keep the boards connected. Start by pre-drilling holes in each board first.
Make sure to measure the distance between the holes before you drill. This will ensure that your boards are lined up perfectly with each other.
Use a drill bit that is slightly smaller than the screw head.
Once the holes are drilled, it’s time to put your jump wings together. Place one board on top of the other with the dowels lined up in the holes. Secure the dowels with screws, making sure they are all firmly tightened.
Grasp the two boards firmly and make sure they are even with each other, then secure the dowels in the remaining holes. When you’re finished, you’ll have a sturdy set of dog agility jump wings that you can use in your agility course.
